"Writer's Cabin"
by sabine7 / November 3, 2005
Inspired by the writings of authors such as Henry David Thoreau, Ernest Hemingway and Jack London, artist and designer Mark Moskovitz knew he needed to create a writer’s cabin of his own. Although he lived in the mountains of Northern Vermont for a few years, the ideal setting for such a cabin, Moskovitz did not start building until he reached the suburbs and the Writer’s Cabin eventually found its home within a gallery setting, rather than under the stars. The serenity imparted by Van Gogh’s bedroom paintings was also essential to the work, which houses objects designed for ‘deliberate living’ by Moskovitz. At once iconic in its simplicity and ironic in its design twists, Writer’s Cabin is an installation that is in itself complete.
